The experience of Ferrotramviaria in rail freight transport began in 2000, when he was among the founding members of the Rail Traction Company (RTC). This over the years has become a major cargo operators between Italy and northern Europe, especially the director of the Brenner Pass.
Since December of 2007 Ferrotramviaria decided to enter directly in the market by getting the Security Certificate, essential condition to operate any national railway infrastructure service. Today FT can operate on the core freight railway corridors, linking the borders of Chiasso and Domodossola with the main Italian ports and inland terminals.
Since 2012 Ferrotramviaria has invested in four new locomotives Bombarider E483 to devote to domestic freight transport, two came into operation in June 2013, one was delivered in april 2016 and the second one in March 2017. At the moment Ferrotramviaria operates a series of services between the main freight terminals in Puglia and the Milan area, carrying on board its trains containers for the biggest logistic operators in Europe.
